Small bathroom renovation

A small bathroom is not automatically a small project.

Compact bathrooms carry the same hidden systems as large ones—plus tighter constraints on storage, movement and drying out between uses. Good small-bathroom design is mostly about planning the room around how it is actually used.

Whether the room is in an apartment, an independent house or a villa, the work starts from the real layout, water points and cleaning routine—not a standard template.

What makes a small bathroom work

Storage that clears the counters

Crowded counters and exposed supplies make a small room harder to clean. Space-appropriate, easy-reach storage is planned for daily use.

Wet-and-dry separation

A defined shower zone keeps the rest of the room drier, safer and easier to maintain, even in a tight footprint.

Safer floors and movement

Anti-skid flooring, better lighting and well-placed fittings matter more as family needs change—especially where thresholds are high or corners are dark.

Easy-clean finishes

Surfaces, joints and layouts chosen to reduce the cleaning burden rather than add to it.

Layout changes: proceed carefully

Moving a WC, drain or water point usually adds more work than replacing items in compatible positions. In a small room the gains can be real, but they are checked against floor levels, drain routes, building rules and cost before they are recommended.

Common questions

Can a small bathroom feel larger without moving walls?
Often, yes. Wet-and-dry separation, floating storage, better lighting and a considered tile layout can make a compact room feel more ordered and usable without structural change.
Is it worth renovating a small bathroom fully?
It depends on the condition of the concealed systems and your goals. If plumbing, drainage and waterproofing are sound, a focused refresh may be enough; if not, a fuller rebuild may be the better long-term decision. The assessment advises.
